College of Environment

2024-07-17

The College of Environment offers three undergraduate majors: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering. Among them, Environmental Engineering is a National characteristic major as well as a National First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Point; the Environmental Science and Engineering Discipline Group is a Provincial Specially -Needed and Urgently-Needed Characteristic Backbone Discipline Group, and the emerging inter-discipline of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality led by the discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering is a key discipline of Henan Province; Environmental Science is a comprehensive reform pilot major and a Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Point.

The college has a doctoral degree authorization point in the first-level discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering, and a postdoctoral research station in Environmental Science and Engineering. At present, the college is the only unit in Henan Province with environmental doctoral degree authorization point and postdoctoral research station. It has built seven scientific research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Huanghuai Water Environment and Pollution Prevention and Control by the Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of Environmental Pollution Control of Henan Province, the International Joint Laboratory of Water Treatment Key Technologies of Henan Province, etc.

The college currently has more than 110 faculty members, including 18 professors, 30 associate professors and 101 doctors. It has 2 double-appointed academicians and more than 10 winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, National Famous Teachers, National Excellent Teachers, etc. It also has 4 high-level talents of Henan Province, 4 Plain Scholars, more than 20 academic and technical leaders and outstanding experts of Henan Province, and nearly 10 innovation teams such as the Science and Technology Innovation Team by the Ministry of Education.

The college has a strong scientific research capability and conducts in-depth and systematic research on water pollution control technology, environmental analysis and detection technology, environmental functional materials and solid wastes recycling, environmental pollution and health effects, etc. In the past 5 years, it has presided over 43 national scientific research projects, including 1 regional joint key project of National Natural Science Foundation of China and 1 National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars; it has won 2 second prizes of Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and 1 second prize of Provincial Natural Science Award; it has published more than 500 papers in Environ. Sci. Technol., Water Res., PNAS and other important SCI source journals at home and abroad, including 158 papers in SCI Zone I; it has obtained over 90 national authorized invention patents.

The cooperative demand of the School of Environment

The need for international collaboration in the College of Environment falls on three teams: Team of Environmental Functional Materials and Application, Team of Environmental Risk and Control for New Pollutants, and Team of Health Effects, Prevention and Control of Air Pollution.

1. Team of Environmental Functional Materials and Application

The team focuses on the design and application of environmental functional materials, and its research involves the development and application of separation membrane materials, photocatalysts and carbonaceous materials. The team has achieved a series of research results in wastewater treatment and pollution control of toxic pollutants, and a number of technologies have been popularized and applied.

2. Team of Environmental Risk and Control for New Pollutants

The team focuses on the research of new pollutant control and its mechanism, which involves the source, transport and transformation, ecological effect and control technology of new pollutants. The team has achieved a number of innovative results in the technology of new pollutant control and the analysis of new pollutant transport and transformation rules.

3. Team of Health Effects, Prevention and Control of Air Pollution

The team has carried out in-depth research on the prevention and control of air pollution, and developed a research mechanism from air pollution to health effects and then to prevention and control technology. The team has achieved fruitful results in air pollution exposure, causes of air pollution, and source analysis of air pollutants.

In recent years, members of the three teams have undertaken 35 national research projects, and published over 200 SCI papers in top journals such as Environ. Sci. Technol. and Water Res.

Over the years, the three teams have laid a solid foundation for international collaboration, and two members got the sponsorship of China Scholarship Council for overseas visit study. It is the hope of the three teams to expand their global engagement, and to establish long-term and stable links with world renowned universities and institutes in talent cultivation, scientific research, and platform development. The specific needs for collaboration can be seen in the following table.
