A Delegation led by President Kaisar Abbas from University of Sargodha in Pakistan Visited HNU

The Cooperation and Exchange Promotion Meeting between HNU and Sargodha University, as well as the Confucius Institute Board Meeting for the year 2024, took place in the third conference room of Qinzhen Building on the morning of July 1st. Present at the meeting were Kaisar Abbas, President of Sargodha University, Pakistan, Vice President Ghulam Yasin, HNU Party Committee Secretary, President, and Chinese Chairman of the Confucius Institute Board, Feng Shuxia, Vice President Nie Guoxing. Additionally, a delegation of 12 individuals, including key department heads and college leaders from Sargodha University, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute Chen Yunxiang, members of the Sino-Pakistani Board, relevant college leaders, and teacher representatives, participated in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Zhao Yang, Director of International Programmes office.

Feng Shuxia warmly welcomed President Abbas and his delegation, expressing gratitude to both sides for their support in promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two universities and the development of the Confucius Institute. She provided an overview of HNU’s academic programs, professional strengths, and success in internationalization efforts. She emphasized the strong strategic partnership between China and Pakistan, which has been cultivated over the past 73 years and is characterized by deep mutual trust and cooperation. The Confucius Institute established through the collaboration of the two universities represents a significant milestone in the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic partnership in education and culture. It serves as a key platform to support the development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor”, and also exemplifies the deeper cooperation between the two universities. Since its inception, the Confucius Institute has made impressive progress and has become a vital avenue for local residents to learn Chinese language and immerse themselves in Chinese culture. She stressed that HNU placed great importance on its partnership with Sargodha University and would continue to actively support the growth of the Confucius Institute. By leveraging the institute’s platform, both universities can enhance collaboration in scientific research, education, and cultural exchange. 

Abbas briefly reviewed the collaboration between the two universities, emphasizing the educational strengths and characteristics of Sargodha University. He also expressed appreciation for HNU’s support of the Confucius Institute. Abbas noted the significant impact of the Confucius Institute on Chinese language education in the Sargodha region, achieving a series of accomplishments. These efforts have played a key role in promoting cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan and strengthening the bond between the peoples of the two nations. Abbas looks forward to the continued partnership between the two universities, deepening exchanges in various fields and at multiple levels, and starting a new chapter in cooperation.

Chen Yunxiang provided a comprehensive report on the activities of the Confucius Institute at Sargodha University in 2024. She reviewed the institutes current development status, highlighted the accomplishments of the past year, addressed challenges encountered, and outlined future plans. Chen stressed the vital role of the partner institutions in supporting the growth of the Confucius Institute. She expressed her hope that the institute would facilitate cooperation and communication between the two universities, ultimately advancing Chinese language education in Pakistan and fostering cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan.

The Board of Directors affirmed the achievements of the Confucius Institute in 2024, reviewed matters such as the Confucius Institute’s work plan, finances, and personnel changes on the Confucius Institute’s Board of Directors, and communicated and discussed the recruitment of local Chinese teachers and scholarships.After the meeting, the delegation from Sargodha University visited six different branches of the university, including School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, College of Life Sciences, College of Computer and Information Engineering, College of Political Science and Public Administration, College of Physical Education, and Faculty of International Studies. During these visits, they engaged in discussions with relevant departments on topics such as student training programs, academic exchanges, faculty development, teacher exchanges, and collaboration on scientific research projects. The interactions were dynamic and productive, leading to the establishment of a preliminary agreement on the scope and nature of future cooperation.
