She outlined the design principles and specific funding plans for seven special programs. Professor LUO Peng from Shanghai Jiao Tong University delivered a keynote speech on the internationalization of higher education institutions in the new era. The School of International Education, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the School of Social Affairs shared their experiences in Sino-foreign cooperation, attracting top talent, and promoting overseas study and exchanges for teachers and students.
Feng Shuxia, secretary of the Party Committee and president, delivered a concluding speech at the conference. She affirmed the achievements of the HNU’s internationalization since entering the “14th Five-Year Plan”, emphasized the important position of internationalization, pointed out the current problems and shortcomings, and put forward the development priorities and requirements of internationalization work in the future. Firstly, we need to enhance our international standing and fully grasp the significance of internationalization. Internationalization is not only a mission mandated by national strategy, but also a key indicator of university education quality, as well as an internal necessity for the high-quality advancement of HNU’s mission. Secondly, we need to collaborate and work together to advance the process of internationalization. All departments, schools, teachers, students, and staff should have the mindset that the entire institution is unified and work towards promoting internationalization quickly. Leaders at all levels should update their understanding, take on responsibilities, prioritize internationalization, take action, and actively incorporate high-quality international educational resources that can strengthen our institution into our initiatives. Thirdly, we need to shoulder the responsibility and make efforts to accomplish all tasks in international education. Each department should concentrate on developing the “Five Characteristic Projects” for international education, which are based on the seven specific plans outlined in the improvement plan. It is important to collaborate in creating diverse and high-level international exchange and cooperation initiatives. Every academic unit should widely promote and coordinate activities, explain and advocate for the improvement plan to faculty and students, and rally the enthusiasm and initiative of everyone involved in international practices. By enhancing the team for managing foreign affairs in education, fostering a culture of mutual care, respect, and engagement, and ensuring high-quality delivery of various tasks, we can provide vital support in establishing HNU’s Double First-Class status and elevating it to a prestigious university level.
At the meeting, Yang Yuzhen announced the approved projects for the National Scholarship for Study Abroad, different levels of overseas talent introduction projects, and the selection of Henan Provincial Outstanding Foreign Scientist Workshops starting from 2023. School leaders awarded certificates of honor to outstanding teachers and students and launched the Foreign Scientist Workshops.
This conference served as a rally to unify thoughts and build consensus, as well as a session to strategize on international development and deepen international education. It laid a solid foundation for enhancing the scope and depth of international exchanges and cooperation, decisively advancing the high-quality growth of our institution.
