The predecessor of Law School was the Law Department approved in 1993. In December 2005, the Department was abolished and the School was established. In 2016, the School of Intellectual Property was founded, co-located with the Law School. The school has the authority to award master’s degree in the first-level discipline of Law and professional master’s degree in Law. The undergraduate Law major is a National First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Site, a characteristic major of Henan Province, and one of the first pilot majors for dual bachelor’s degree education of Henan Province; the Intellectual Property major is one of the first batch of undergraduate majors in China since the adjustment of the undergraduate major catalog by the Ministry of Education in 2012, and a Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Site.
The school currently has 59 faculty members, including 24 teachers with senior professional titles and 33 doctors. Many teachers have overseas study experience. There are currently 1429 full-time undergraduates, 153 master students, and over 500 adult-education students. In the past three years, the school has presided over 4 National Social Science Fund Projects and 19 provincial and ministerial projects, published 13 books and 29 papers of CSSCI source journals, and won 5 Henan Province Excellent Social Achievement Awards. The debate team of the school has won the championship of Henan Province “Excellence Cup” Legal Debate Competition for three consecutive times.
The school has established teaching, research and service institutions such as the Law Experimental Practice Teaching Center, the Three Rural Legal Issues Research Center of Henan Normal University, and the New Rural Rules of Law Construction Research Center of Henan Normal University. Among them, the Three Rural Legal Issues Research Center is a legal advisory institution for Henan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. At the same time, the school is also a research base for Innovative Experimental Programs of College Students by the Ministry of Education, and an innovation base for collaborative training of foreign-related legal talents of Henan Province. It has signed a strategic agreement on “Institutional Cooperation” with the Intermediate People’s Court of Xinxiang City.
In recent years, the school has hosted academic conferences such as the “Rule of Law Forum on Rural Revitalization and Ecological Environment Protection”, “Rule of Law Guarantee for New Development Pattern”, “The 18th National Legal Methods Forum”, “The 14th National Legal Rhetoric Academic Seminar” and “The 8th Henan Rule of Law Forum on Rural Governance”. It has signed a memorandum of understanding on academic cooperation and exchanges with the Law School of JeJu National University of South Korea, and talks with Inha University of South Korea for an AI Law Master’s Program.
