School of Social Work, formerly known as the Social Science Teaching Department established in 2001, was restructured from the Public Affairs College in 2005, and in 2012 it got the name of the School of Social Affairs. It is now an authorized construction unit for the doctoral degree in Sociology, the only one in Henan Province.
The school offers four undergraduate majors: Sociology, Social Work, Labor and Social Security, and Logistics Management. Among them, Sociology has been selected as a National First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Point(the first batch), and it has been recognized as a key discipline of first-level academic importance in Henan Province. Social Work has been selected as a Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Point. The school offers a Master’s degree in Sociology and professional degrees in Social Work (MSW), Master of Public Administration (MPA), and Master of Agriculture.
The faculty consists of over 60 members, including 15 professors, 23 associate professors, 9 doctoral supervisors, and 26 master’s supervisors. Faculty members have led 22 national research projects, 5 major philosophical and social science projects for universities in Henan province, 34 provincial and department-level projects, and over 60 other bureau-level projects. They have published more than 140 academic papers and 26 scholarly monographs.
The school has been awarded titles such as First Batch of Huang Danian style teacher team in Henan universities and colleges, Henan Undergraduate Sociology Course Ideological and Political Teaching Team, and Henan Sociology Course Ideological and Political Teaching Research Characteristic Demonstration Center. The school hosts Provincial and ministerial level research platforms, such as Henan (Xinxiang) Branch of the China Volunteer Service Research Center and Henan Research Center for the Practice of New Era Civilization. It has been approved as a National Professional Training Base for Social Work, and National Supervisory and Practical Training Base for Social Work, as part of the first group of such institutions.
