College of Fine Arts was initially established as the Art Department of Henan Normal University in 1986. It was later restructured into the Fine Arts Department in September 1996, and eventually became College of Fine Arts in 2005. It currently offers five undergraduate majors: Fine Arts, Painting, Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, and Product Design. The Fine Arts major is widely regarded as First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Point at the national and provincial level, being recognized as the ninth batch of key disciplines in Henan Province, a distinguished provincial discipline, and a key discipline of the university. The Painting major is also considered Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Point.
College of Fine Arts hosts authorized master’s degree programs in Art Studies as well as professional master’s degree programs in Fine Arts, Calligraphy, and Education with a focus on Fine Arts teaching.It has five provincial-level platforms and one university-level platform. Currently, there are 1,372 full-time undergraduate students and 201 graduate students enrolled. The school’s facilities include nearly 10,000 square meters of teaching buildings, two multifunctional lecture halls, one resource room, one art collection room, and an art exhibition hall spanning almost 1,000 square meters.
The faculty of this college comprises 62 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 31 associate professors, and 25 PhD holders, providing a well-structured teaching team. The teachers have collectively published over 600 papers and works in various academic journals, authored more than 40 monographs, textbooks, and collections of works, and undertaken nearly 20 research projects at or above the provincial level, receiving over 20 national and provincial awards. Additionally, more than 400 pieces of painting and design work by the faculty have been selected for national and international exhibitions, with dozens of pieces being collected by prestigious organizations such as International Olympic Committee, China Art Museum and other institutions.
College of Fine Arts has been highly recognized for its excellence in art education, receiving the title of Advanced Unit of National School Art Education from the Ministry of Education in October 2010. In April 2024, the school’s Artistic Love for the Party branch was designated as a National Model Branch.
