The College of Modern Engineering is the first batch of pilot units for the construction of new-type modern industry colleges in Henan Province. The college focuses on the intersection of medicine and engineering with an orientation towards life and health disciplines. It concentrates on the needs of Henan Province’s modern pharmaceutical, new materials, and electronic information industry clusters. The aim is to create a new-type modern industry college that integrates talent cultivation, scientific research, technological development, and enterprise services, promoting the cross-fusion and development of medicine and engineering.
Leveraging platforms such as National Key Laboratories, Ministry of Education Key Laboratories, and National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratories, along with first-level doctoral degree authorization sites in Chemistry, Biology, and Optical Engineering, the College has established four professional clusters in Biomedicine, Advanced Materials, Information Technology, and Rehabilitation Medicine. Currently, it offers seven undergraduate majors including Biomedical Engineering, Medical Information Engineering, Intelligent Materials and Structures, Optoelectronic Information Materials and Devices, Sustainable Energy, Sports Rehabilitation, and Product Design, with plans to expand to around 30 majors in the future. The College uses deepening industry-education integration as a breakthrough point and promoting the integration of science and education as a new direction. It has established and improved a talent cultivation mechanism that runs from undergraduate through to doctoral levels, implementing an integrated talent cultivation model that embeds scientific research throughout the entire process of innovative talent development. Focusing on the construction of new engineering disciplines, the College persists in the philosophy of engineering education, emphasizing engineering practice training, enhancing students’ research innovation and practical abilities, nurturing outstanding science and engineering talents, and distinguished engineers to serve the economic and social development of the region.
